He will\u00a0lead\u00a0Hallmarq&#8217;s\u00a0ambitious\u00a0small animal clinical\u00a0programme,\u00a0supporting\u00a0product development\u00a0and commercial\u00a0efforts,\u00a0as well as\u00a0fostering\u00a0relationships with\u00a0Hallmarq&#8217;s clinical partners.\u00a0Dr Platt\u2019s vision for his new role is to\u00a0collaborate with veterinary\u00a0surgeons in using imaging to work more effectively to deliver positive outcomes for patients.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Leading-edge neurological expertise <\/h2>\n\n<p>Currently a professor at the University of Georgia\u00a0in Athens, Ga.,\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Platt\u00a0has authored more than 200 journal articles and 50 book chapters on\u00a0canine and feline\u00a0neurology. He will continue in his role\u00a0at the\u00a0university\u00a0whilst working with Hallmarq.\u00a0Dr. Platt\u00a0previously\u00a0completed a Neurology and Neurosurgery residency in 1998 at the University of Florida. He is co-editor of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Neurology and the Manual of Small Animal Neurological Emergencies, Past-President of the ACVIM Neurology Specialty and Founder member of the South Eastern Veterinary Neurology (SEVEN) group in the USA. Currently,\u00a0he serves as Editor in Chief of the NAVC journal Today\u2019s Veterinary Practice and was made a\u00a0Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2018.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Jos Belgrave, Chief Executive Officer at Hallmarq, explains the importance of this appointment:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cWe are delighted to welcome Dr. Platt to his new role, and believe that his work will support our\u00a0vision\u00a0to improve the lives of animals and of the people who care for them. A key aim is to increase\u00a0access to leading-edge neurological science for more practices\u00a0in the small animal\u00a0sector.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p><cite>Jos Belgrave, CEO, Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Increasing access to small animal MRI<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Dr. Platt believes his new position will allow him\u00a0to better help veterinarians understand MRI and imaging technology\u00a0and\u00a0to\u00a0capitalize\u00a0on its benefits for their\u00a0practice saying:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cI\u2019m really excited to get back to the veterinary profession\u00a0at its\u00a0grass roots. The last year has been difficult for everybody in different ways, and we\u2019ve not been able to properly get out there and connect with people. Being able to help the people using the technology is really exciting for me.\u00a0I have consulted with a number of vets about MRI imaging situations and have helped many\u00a0work\u00a0through those cases. It has become obvious to me that there is a real need to help the profession learn more about how to make imaging work for them.\u201d\u00a0<\/p><cite>Dr. Simon Platt, Small Animal Medical Director, Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Dr. Platt has worked with MRI technology since 1995 and will\u00a0utilize\u00a0that substantial experience to help veterinarians better understand and embrace the changes it brings to their patients\u2019\u00a0outcomes. He adds:<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cImaging technology used to be mainly confined to academic environments. Now it\u2019s become much more available. Improvement on an outcome in veterinary medicine relies on availability. Sometimes it isn\u2019t convenient to have to wait for an urgent appointment or drive a long distance to have access to advancing imaging. As technology is becoming more advanced and widespread it has become more available to practitioners. With that, we\u2019re seeing more cases\u00a0referred for\u00a0MRI and,\u00a0as a result,\u00a0we\u2019re understanding more about disease.
